The temperatures are slowly dropping and the air fills with the scents of leaves and rain. Gradually but surely, autumn approaches and with it our favourite season when it comes to cool styles. It's still warm enough not to have to wear thick jackets and scarves, but already fresh enough to casually create slick layering looks with long pants. We at SANVT tell you what the best autumn pants (aka trousers) are and how to style them best in this transitional season!
Well, the time has come: the shorts season is clearly and officially over. Some of you will surely be happy to finally be able to wear long pants again. And although we at SANVT love chino shorts in the summer, we too are looking forward to more diversity in the leg wear of men's fashion again. Whether it's chinos, cargo pants, jeans, tweed pants, or sweatpants, we definitely have a wider variety to choose from and a broader range of looks to create in fall. But what are the best autumn pants / trousers?
Heavyweight Chino in Navy from the SANVT collection.
Heavyweight chinos
High quality chinos are pretty suitable for all seasons, actually. But since classic lightweight chinos are especially good for warmer temperatures because of their breathability, they give an almost overly cool feel on the skin in the fall and winter. And since our autumn in the north tends to be cold and grey instead of mild and golden, chinos made of a sturdier, heavier material are better suited for autumn. That's why we at SANVT designed the heavyweight chino, which is made of a durable mix of premium organic cotton (98%) and elastane (2%) and weighs a whopping 420 g/m2. The diagonal weave structure in combination with an extra loose weaving technique capture the heat particularly well, compared to its peers.
Our sophisticated heavy chino in dark blue is designed in Munich. Its luxurious stretch cotton is woven in Italy, and the pants are finally handmade in Portugal. Fair, sustainable and climate neutral, the heavy chino from SANVT is definitely a must-have for all stylish and environmentally conscious men. Styled with a simple dark blue long sleeve t-shirt, cool patterned socks and plain white sneakers, you get a smart and minimalist look for fall. This definitely makes heavy chinos one of the best autumn pants.
Vintage tweed pants
Another classic for fall are vintage tweed pants. You can find them in pretty much any cool second hand store in different patterns, colours and cuts. We love beige plaid vintage tweed pants for the fall in combination with platform loafers, loose and chunky knit cardigans and beaded necklaces around the neck. A daring and trendy unisex style ideal for autumnal temperatures.
Flared & Straight fit jeans
Jeans are an all-rounder in every season. What is considered new this fall, however, is the flared look. While flared jeans have been back in style for women for a few years now, they are only making their comeback for men this season! Inspired by hippie styles from the 70s, the flared jeans come across especially cool in combination with chunky oxford shoes or boots and a knitted sweater, layered with a straight-cut wool coat. And if you want to integrate another trend into the look, combine flared jeans with pastel colours. If you are not the flared jeans-kind-of-type, you can also go with a nice, classic pair of straight fit jeans. Whether in light blue, washed blue or black - jeans are always a good choice in either styling your outfit up together with a roll neck sweater or down with a basic sweatshirt.
Sweatpants
If you're rather into casual looks and don't yet want to venture into more daring looks like beaded necklaces and pastel colours, sweatpants are one of the more low-key choices among the best autumn pants. Especially in black or beige, sweatpants come across as particularly cool in monochrome, minimalist and laid-back styles. We recommend combining a pair of black sweatpants with a black tucked-in heavy t-shirt, chunky boots and a cropped beanie. A pair of beige sweatpants on the other hand looks great with an oversized t-shirt in off-white, layered with a longer, cream-colored and straight-cut denim jacket, stylish sneakers with thick soles and a cap. Or very simple: tone in tone with a beige sweatshirt and white sneakers.
For both looks, we recommend the perfect sweatpants from SANVT, handmade in Portugal from a heavy 400 g/m² French Terry. After two years of development, we came up with our innovative "diagonal loopback". Compared to traditional French Terry fabrics, the diagonal knit structure on the inside of our sweatpants guarantees greater durability and thermoregulation. The loopback fabric made of 100% organic cotton therefore offers maximum comfort, extreme softness and high temperature regulation in fall and winter.
Oversized Cargos
Another trend for fall are oversized cargo pants. With their patch pockets, cargo pants are not only functional – as you can store your cell phone, keys, etc. in them – but they are also reminiscent of the slouchy yet cool skater fashion from the '90s. Extra-wide and extra-long, beige or rust brown cargos look super relaxed in fall, with black sneakers, a black hoodie and a plaid overshirt. Rounded off with sunglasses, a fanny pack and a bucket hat, the on-trend 90s look becomes complete.
The best pants for fall: the bottom line
As you can see, we are more than welcome to let our creative fashion juices flow in autumn and experiment with more daring cuts, colours and accessories. Genderfluid and unisex styles are in for men, women and non-binary folks alike. So this fall, dare to break old conformities and usher in a new era of (men's) fashion. With our style guide for the best autumn pants, you already have a lot of inspiration to set new trends!
